CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in illustrated maps came naturally as a way of organizing memories of trips, favorite ice cream spots, and interesting routes. For me, the two most important qualities of a successful map illustration are hierarchy and clarity—it must be easy to understand and process, as well as eye-catching. As an illustrator who specializes in maps, I nurture this focus by observing and experimenting with color palettes and techniques. What I love most about map making is that it combines organizing, drawing and maybe learning about a new place, culture, or even era!

Q&A
What is your most memorable vacation spot?
That's a tough one! I remember being captivated and excited when I listened to the humpback whales in Australia and went up on deck and saw the beautiful family swimming.
What is your favorite mode of transportation?
Train. I like to see how the landscape changes and the movement is relaxing.
Which do you prefer: mountains, desert, beach, or forest?
I love those tropical beaches that have the jungle just touching the sand.
