CREATIVE STATEMENT

Peanuts, Tintin and other newspapers comics fascinated me as a kid. Now I see how pictures pull children into reading. A story from my mother's kitchen became my picture book, Beginning of Imperfection, a happiness I want to keep sharing. Along the way came Birdzo, a curious blue bird who travels, eats and naps through life. One day, I hope he gets his own comic series. What I love most is how children's illustration makes a small, true moment feel big and warm. I believe children's illustration make the readers curious, look closer and find something new.

Q&A

What was your favourite storybook as a child?
Peanuts and Mickey Mouse comics, which I read again and again. Today I'd add The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and Oliver Jeffers' Once Upon an Alphabet.

Which authors do you admire most?
Roald Dahl, for his mischief and for never talking down to children, along with the illustrators Quentin Blake, Hergé and Jean-Jacques Sempé, who make a few simple lines feel full of life.

What characteristic really brings a children's book to life?
A character children can see themselves in, and one small, true detail that makes them laugh or pause. Humour with heart.
