CREATIVE STATEMENT

My interest in children's books began as a first grade teacher and then grew as I became a mom. Over the years, my expertise in illustration has developed due to constantly learning and experimenting and getting the opportunity to work on children's books. What I love most about children's books is how a well illustrated book can spark a love of reading that carries on throughout a lifetime and simply serves as a way to spark joy! As an illustrator who specializes in kid forward books and products, I nurture this focus by drawing every day and taking notice of the things that my own children show interest in. To create a successful children's illustration I believe it's important to collaborate closely with the author to bring their vision to life and to always be open to feedback. For me, the two most important qualities of a successful children's illustration are loveable adorable characters and a level of imaginative believability. To maintain my skill set I often visit libraries and bookstores and focus on drawing every day.
